Frequently Asked Questions
What's with the giraffe?
Hamish the Giraffe grew up in Edinburgh Zoo. He lost his body from the neck down in a tragic boating accident. Hamish, sadly was consequently thrown out of the zoo after a downturn in visitor numbers on account of his tap dance show being axed. He tried to make a living with a "stand-up" (arf arf) show at the Edinburgh festival...
This is where he met Iona the blue rabbit who was doing mime on the Royal Mile. They both joined forces with Chikako the bluebird who was visiting from Japan with her Japanese street drumming group. The three formed a Liza Minnelli Cabaret Tribute Act which went down like a lead balloon.
As it approached Crimble 2005 - Miso Funky were looking for some entertainment for their Christmas party. The Liza Minnelli Cabaret Tribute Act were right in their price range!
To cut a very long story short, Miso Funky kept the trio on to save the world from their terrible act and the rest is history!
Yes, we do have active imaginations.

Can I have a stall at the market please?
We're not currently organising markets, but when we do ...
Well, I don't know, can you? If you are a purveyor of funky crafts, then there is a strong possibility! The three deciding factors are funkiness of your stuff, the number of similar stalls we have and if we have enough room.
Unlike some other organisers, we do not vet you for ability, qualifications or the like. We simply want to make sure your wares are in keeping with our handmade, funky ethos and that we don't have too many people selling the same things. I'd recommend checking the market pages of the site to see the sorts of things we usually have along.
How do I increase my chances of getting a stall?
By being unique, funky and friendly! If you are looking to sell things that are not handmade, don't bother. If you are an evil mass-producer of tat, again, don't waste your time. If you've got all manner of unusual ideas, then apply!
How will I know if I've got a stall?
You can check the market pages of our website for the latest list of stall holders. We try to update it as quickly as possible, but if there are delays to site updating, we'll try to email you to let you know.
Can I share a stall with a friend?
If your friend is also a purveyor of funky wares, of course you can! Please remember to tell us at the time you apply so we can make sure we keep up the variation.
When is the next market?
The dates for markets go up here when we confirm them. We try to email out to our mailing list when we can but we advise everyone to watch the market page for news and updates. You can also subscribe to the RSS feed of our news page here.
Why do you charge for stalls at the market?
Because we have to cover the venue hire and things like poster printing, advertising, etc. We don't make any money out of putting on markets. We do it for you out of the goodness of our hearts. The terms and conditions for markets are here.
How much does a stall cost?
As little as we can possibly charge. The amount charged is to cover venue hire and other costs such as printing flyers, etc. No profit is made by Miso Funky on putting on markets and we try to keep costs to a minimum. The fee for stalls has never been more than £25 and is usually less than £20.
What size are the stalls at the markets?
This depends on what the venue supplies, but generally roughly 6 foot long by 2 foot wide.
Please will you link to my website?
We might do. Is your site craft related in a funky way? Then we might, if you link to us. Is your site trying to sell viagra, mortgages or fake degrees? Then, your answer's no.
Hello, I'm a journalist and I'd like to feature your wares...
Please, go right ahead. We're very accommodating and will be happy to discuss anything with you, provide high res images, etc. Check out our Press page or please email us for more details.
How can my products get featured on miso funky?
We have recently set up a guest designer's slot on our shop. If you'd like to be featured there, drop us a line explaining why, telling us about your products and include some photos and we'll get back to you.
I sent you an e-mail ages ago! why haven't you replied?
Because we've all been eaten by giant stoats. Honest! There are 2 main reasons - firstly, we're very busy and haven't gotten round to it. Or it could be secondly, we've just forgotten. If it's been more than a week, try again. It doesn't happen often, but maybe we've missed it.
Your site doesn't work! Why not?
Perhaps you are typing the address into your microwave? If there is a problem with the site, then we'd like you to tell us about it - but only if you can tell us what browser you are using, what you were trying to do at the time and what time you were doing it. We're no scientologists, but we will endeavour to have it checked out.
Will you design my website?
No, but Marceline might. She's a web genie and very reasonably priced.
What do you all do when you're not working on Miso Funky?
We have boring day jobs. That's why we might take some time to get back to you.
I still have a question, can you answer it?
We can try. Email us and ask.
