Punto Cruz Gigantico!

May 7th, 2012

Check out this giant cross stitch in Spain! Awesome, isn’t it? There’s a whole post about it on the website of Du Dua. which seems to be the most amazing craft shop/workshop provider in Barcelona.

My Spanish isn’t up to much, but I really want to seek this place out if I’m ever there – it looks fantastic. And now I want to have a go at this…who’s in?

Cross Stitch Kit Giveaway

May 2nd, 2012

Giveaway time! How would you like to win one of our very own Union Jack Corgi cross stitch kits? You would? Well, here’s how:

Just leave a comment on this post to enter and let us know what you’d call your corgi if you had one. Our favourite name wins the kit. Simple!

The competition is open until midnight GMT on May 11th and is open to all, wherever on the planet you may be (entries from space included). You must leave an email address too or you won’t get your prize, like the poor sap who won our mugs and then never claimed them! We’ll give those away on Twitter soon, so make sure you are following us.

We don’t have a corgi, but we do have a beautiful Labrador – how have we made it to 6 months of dog ownership without mentioning him here?! Here’s a photo to tug at your heartstrings:

Awwww. Get naming those fictional corgis!

Emily Squared

April 30th, 2012

If you’ve ever wanted to try out needlework for yourself and have been a bit daunted, then pin back your ears! Our two very talented Emilys, Peacock and Mackey, of Maxemilia, have joined forces to offer a one-day workshop in contemporary needlework which is sure to inspire you.

It’s being held at Hardcastle Crags,  a National Trust mill in the Pennines. You can find out more and book onto the workshop here.

And if that wasn’t enough for you, the final two designs of Emily Peacock’s Retro Modern range are now available in store! The Butterfly and Peacock (of course!) are both really bright and bold designs, perfect for Spring stitching.

Flying The Flag

April 16th, 2012

As 2012 seems to be the year of the Union Jack all over again, we’ve put together a collection of Great British Goods, featuring a selection of our wares which have a patriotic theme.

The jewel in the crown is of course our brand new Union Jack Corgi cross stitch kits:

These have been designed with the Queen’s special celebration this year in mind, however, they are a patriotic Cool Britannia project at any time, really. You’ll find them available to purchase here.

The winner of our latest giveaway is yet to come forwards! Was it you? If we don’t hear from you in the next week, we’ll re-draw it, so be quick! Stay tuned for another prize draw soon.

Designer Q&A – Cerys Turner

April 5th, 2012

Next in our series of designer mini-interviews (is min-terview a word? If not, it should be) is Cerys Turner, whose cross stitch cards we recently started stocking. Take it away, Cerys!

Name: Cerys Turner.

Location: Bethnal Green, East London.

I make: I’m influenced by a wide range of cultures, eras and textile techniques and take an experimental approach and hope something interesting arrives at the end of the process.

My favourite craft tool is: My screen printing squeegee, I actually print with a very non-technical version (a window cleaner’s squeegee instead of a proper screen printer’s one!). Other designers in my studio seem very surprised when I bring it out, but I started using it in art school and it really works for me!

My favourite achievement is: Selling designs to international brands has been really cool, but I appreciate it even more when people who’ve completed my craft kits get in touch with their finished versions. I love seeing how they’ve added their own creativity and made the finished pieces unique to them.

I couldn’t live without: Coffee. I admit I’m a bit of a caffeine addict, but I also love coffee culture, sitting in cafes and people watching or over-hearing snippets of random conversations.

You may be surprised to know: I’ve visited japan and love Japanese culture and the Kawaii characters they invent over there, my all-time favourite is Afro Ken, a dog with an afro that is multicoloured and always changing to different hairstyles.

Ah, Afro Ken – he’s one of my favourite old-skool kawaii characters too. Look, here he is.

Thanks, Cerys!

Designer Q&A – Slipcover Your Life

March 29th, 2012

Next up in our series of meet the designer interviews is Erin Stanton of Slipcover Your Life whose cross stitch kits are very popular at Miso Funky.

Name: Erin Stanton

Location: New York, NY

I make: Contemporary cross stitch kits.

My favourite craft tool is:  My hands!  While I am a cross stitcher by heart, I still love to draw (black and white pencil drawings), crochet (somehow my left-handed grandmother and mother were able to teach this righty cross stitching AND crochet), design wedding invitations (just designed the wedding invitations for two of my best friends), etc.  I’m hoping to test out mixed medium soon (screen printing and cross stitching anyone?)

My favourite achievement is:  Selling my first non-friend cross stitch kit.  When I first sat down a few years back thinking that I might be able to design my own patterns and sell them, I had no idea if there was a population of people out there that loved cross stitch as much as me.  That order came through and I remember thinking, Wait, I do not know this person, they actually found my shop and purchased a kit!

I couldn’t live without: Bad TV!  I design and stitch my best patterns with horrible TV on in the background!  It also doesn’t hurt to have a miniature dachshund curled up next to you keeping you warm.

You might be surprised to know: I hate pizza and peanut butter and love lima beans and brussel sprouts.

Thanks, Erin! Who’s next? Stay tuned to find out.
