Auntie M’s Cake Lounge

March 19th, 2010

In another chapter of indie businesses we love, here’s a local shop that opens in a few days!

Auntie M’s Cake Lounge is the new cakey venture by Michelle from Covetables. Not only is Michelle super-nice, she is also the most awesome baker this side of…well, just about everywhere! Her brownies are the stuff of LEGENDS!

So, imagine mine and Hamish’s delight when we heard about her new gig – a cake lounge! I had an impromptu sneak peek of it yesterday and it’s awesome. With a 50s theme, it is furnished with the finest vintage furniture and fittings and you just know the cake is going to be phenomenal.

Lucky for us locals, there is a special preview evening tonight! If you’re in the area, pop into DeCourcey’s Arcade, just off Byres Road, Glasgow,  from 5pm onwards to see what I’m raving about. Hope to see you there!

Alice In Wonderland Fever!

March 5th, 2010

Yay, Alice In Wonderland is released here in the UK today!

It’s been much anticipated by us, ever since we saw the images of the amazing costumes and sets months ago – Tim Burton’s brain must be quite a trip!

To celebrate, I created a little set of samplers which would fit right into the film – Tim, call me for next time!

The Eat Me and Drink Me samplers are available singly or as a matching set exclusively through ace interiors store, Hunkydory Home.

Are you going to see the movie? Let us know what you think!

We Love…Karina’s Bags

February 27th, 2010

As part of our series of telling you about other brilliant designers out there, I had to add a quick post about Karina and her bags.

I met Karina a few years ago in her native Newcastle at the Cluny market (RIP) and was truly taken aback by the stunning quality of her handbags. She makes the handbags you only dream that you’ll find one day – handmade from vintage components to such a high-standard, you’ll want to lie down and weep with joy then and there!

My saddle-tan doctors bag garners comments and admiring glances wherever I go – it was the bag I had in my mind’s eye for many years before I found it!

If you’re in the market for a handbag or purse, then you should really take a look at the awesome work on offer here.

I promise I’m not on commission – just a truly delighted customer, even after several years!
